Malaysia announced another lockdown to prevent the third phase of corona infection. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Tansri Mohiuddin Yasin in a speech to the nation.
He made the announcement at 6pm local time on Monday (January 11).
It will take effect from midnight on Tuesday (January 12). The lockdown will continue till January 26. The government will strictly monitor the newly announced MCO as it did last March.
According to the announcement, all types of business establishments except shops for daily necessities will have to be closed. Religious places of worship, sports, clubs, bars and all kinds of social events will be closed. MCO applicable for Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Putrajaya, Malacca, Johor and Sabah.
The Prime Minister also said that a decision would be taken after considering the situation after the two-week MCO. All types of travel have also been banned during this period.
The decision comes after the country’s health ministry warned that an average of 8,000 corona patients would be found every day from March if it did not take steps to prevent corona infection.
It is to be noted that in the third phase of infection, an average of 2,000 people are being infected with corona every day in the country. Besides, on January 7, the government sat motionless after releasing a maximum of 3,000 corona infections.
Meanwhile, 2,232 people were infected with corona in Malaysia on Monday. 4 people died.
