Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has banned the import of coronavirus vaccines from the United States and the United Kingdom. He made the announcement on Friday.
In a televised speech, Khamenei said, “Importing vaccines from the United States and Britain is banned in the country. I told it to the officials and now I am saying it in public. I have no confidence in them. Sometimes they run vaccination tests on other countries. If the Americans had been able to produce the vaccine, the coronavirus would not have caused this disaster in their country. ‘
Iran is the worst affected by the Corona outbreak in the Middle East. The country’s own ticker trial began last month. Authorities say the vaccine will help Iran fight the epidemic, despite US sanctions.
In his speech, Khamenei praised Iran’s own ticker. At the same time, he said, Tehran can import vaccines from any other country if it wants. However, he did not mention the names of those countries.
