The Japanese government has declared a month-long state of emergency in the capital, Tokyo. The announcement was made on Thursday as corona infections began to increase.
This state of emergency is effective from Friday. This is somewhat flexible compared to the severe lockdown that is taking place in other parts of the world and the lockdown that was first announced in Japan. Initially, restaurants and bars will be banned. The bars have been asked to stop serving alcohol after 7pm. Residents are also prohibited from going out after 8pm unless absolutely necessary.
“The rapid spread of the new coronavirus across the country is expected to have a huge impact on public life and the economy,” said Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.
“We are getting a record number of infections every day,” said Yasutoshi Nishimura, the minister for epidemics. We are going to be in a very serious crisis. ‘
