A yaba trader was killed in a shootout with RAB in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday (December 22) in the Shamlapur area of Baharchhara Union.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammad Shah Alam, commander of RAB-15’s Cox’s Bazar Battalion’s Huaikeng camp, confirmed the information and said the identity of the deceased Yaba Karbari was not known.
ASP Shah Alam said, “A RAB patrol team saw some people running in the Shamlapur area of Teknaf this morning. When they chased the people, they shot at the RAB members. The RAB also fired back in self-defense. One yaba trader was killed. Two members of the RAB were injured.
He said 10,000 yaba, 1 knife, 1 gun and 3 bullets were seized from the spot.
Teknaf Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Hafizur Rahman said, “After receiving information from the RAB, the police recovered the body and prepared an inquest report.” However, the identity of the deceased has not been known yet. His body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
