Effort is going on to reduce number of bus routes from 291 to 42, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh.
Buses of 22 companies owned by 2500 owners will run in the capital. Apart from this, buses from Gazipur and Narayanganj will have to stay in the bus terminals outside of the city. Thus, traffic jam will be reduced, he hoped.
The DSCC mayor came up with the information at a meeting on bus route rationalisation at Buriganga Hall of Nagarbhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Mayor Taposh said, “The bus route rationalisation committee is working in order to bring discipline in the transport sector as well as to free roads of the capital from tailback. The committee has already progressed a lot. We have made a proposal to reduce number of routes in the city from 291 to 42 and where 2500 owners of 4,000 buses will be brought under 22 companies.”
Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Md Atiqul Islam also joined the meeting virtually and expressed his opinion.
