The confectionery and bakery company ‘Mr. Baker has been charged with VAT evasion worth Tk 80.16 crore.
It has been alleged in the case that they evaded the government’s duty by concealing sales information worth Tk 265 crore. The VAT Intelligence Department of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) filed the case on Sunday.
According to a press release of the department, the case has been sent to the Dhaka North Commissionerate for determination of ‘justice’. On October 20, VAT detectives found Mr. Baker raided the Cake and Pastry Shop Limited’s factory and head office in Turag.
The company has 29 outlets in Dhaka, through which it sells factory-made products.
Moinul Khan, director general of the VAT intelligence department, said: “During the operation at the head office of the company, they could not show any documents of VAT collection.
Later in Tongi area Mr. Baker’s bank account confiscated, Sales and VAT have been determined by reviewing the transactions of this business organization. This case has been filed on the basis of this. ”
According to the VAT Intelligence Department, during the inspection, the purchase book (VAT-6.1) and the sales account book (VAT-6.2) were not found in the company as per the obligation of VAT law. Although they wanted to see other documents related to VAT, the owners present could not show them and they could not give any good answer about not keeping them.
In this, the VAT intelligence team thinks that on the basis of ‘fiction and fiction’, ‘Mr. Baker was filing a return to the local VAT circle.
