The last is the ban on catching hilsa. Hilsa hunting in the river was banned for 22 days from October 14 to November 4 to protect mother hilsa.
At that time fishing, sale, marketing, storage and transportation of hilsa was prohibited. After breaking the 22-day ban, the fishermen went down into the river with nets again from midnight on Wednesday (November 4).
It is to be noted that the Jatka protection program was started in Bangladesh from 2003-2004. Since then, the production of hilsa has been gradually increasing.
