IGP said that in order to be a police in a developed country, the police service should be taken to the doorsteps of the people through bit policing, the police should be drug free, illegal benefits should not be taken from the people from the police. We have to behave humanely, not cruelly towards people. He also promised to ensure the overall welfare of the police officers and the force engaged in the service of the people. Since taking over as IGP, he has conveyed these five messages to police members at all levels.
IGP inaugurated the newly constructed barrack building of Uttara Regional Police Lines of Dhaka Metropolitan Police as the chief guest at Diabari in Uttara on Saturday afternoon.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam presided over the ceremony, Additional IG. Md. Moinur Rahman Chowdhury, Deputy Managing Director of Abul Khair Group Md. Abu Saeed Chowdhury spoke. Heads of various units in Dhaka, Additional IGs and senior police officers were present on the occasion.
IGP issued a stern warning that no member of the police would take drugs and would not be associated with drugs in any way. Referring to the topic of cancer treatment, he said that if a person is diagnosed with cancer, the affected part is cut and removed. If any member of the police is involved in drugs, he will also be ruthlessly removed from the Bangladesh police. No concession will be given in this regard.
IGP said that corona virus infection was detected in our country on March 8. Then the police started working for the protection of the people without waiting for the protection materials to prevent the virus. The police now have adequate security for each of its 200,000 members.
Referring to the medical treatment of corona-affected policemen, the IGP said, “In just two weeks, we have transformed the Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital from a 250-bed to a 500-bed covid hospital.” An advanced private hospital has been rented in the capital Dhaka for the treatment of police personnel, schools-colleges and hotels have been rented and turned into isolation centers. Where PCR machines cannot be installed in less than four weeks for corona testing, a PCR lab has been set up at the Central Police Hospital in just 12 days. Not only in Dhaka, departmental hospitals outside Dhaka are being modernized. As a result, police members are recovering faster and the death rate is declining, he said. He said the death toll in the police was only 0.5 percent. At the national level, the rate is 1.3 percent.
IGP said an expert medical team comprising the Hon’ble Prime Minister had visited various hospitals in the country and described the Corona Central Police Hospital as the best in treatment and management. China’s specialist medical team has also praised the medical protocol and management of the Corona Medical Central Police Hospital.
Referring to the pandemic policing system, IGP said, “We have prepared a pandemic policing standard operating procedure (SOP) suitable for the Bangladesh Police by collecting the pandemic policing guidelines of their countries, World Health Organization and international and regional guidelines through the officials working in embassies of different countries posted in Dhaka.” . Now one of our police constables also knows how to do pandemic policing.
“We are working on how to bring the corona infection down to zero,” the IGP said. He urged all to adhere to the minimum hygiene rules to bring the rate down to zero nationally. “If we all work together in unity, we will be able to deal with this disaster,” he said.
“We have constructed a barrack building on a short-term temporary basis to alleviate the housing crisis of police personnel,” the IGP said. It was done in Demra, it was done in Uttara today. We will also build a barrack building in Purbachal. In the long run we will move towards the construction of multi-storey buildings. We want to reduce the density of police force accommodation and provide them with comfortable accommodation. He thanked Abul Khair’s group for their cooperation in the construction of the police barracks building.
At the beginning of his speech, the IGP wished peace to the souls of the frontline doctors, health workers, journalists, police and others who were martyred after being attacked by Corona. He conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
